Burglar Alarm - For Ancient Shipwrecks

By

Out of all the mysteries that this gigantic earth holds, the ones in the sea seem to be particularly interesting. I used to often dream about how great my life would be if I were able to breath underwater. I thought, at the time, that the great expanse of the ocean was even more interesting than the great expanse of space. Out of all the amazing things one can find at the bottom of the sea, only some things have value once they reach the surface. One of these things are shipwrecks.

Shipwrecks are a unique part of the worlds oceans. Obviously one distinguishing factor about shipwrecks is that they are not a natural part of the sea floor, but that doesn't mean they are bad. Shipwrecks are a great home for schools of fish and coral. Of course the real value of a wreck does not come by providing a home for sea life. The real value comes from the treasure that is normally present on ancient shipwrecks.

Now humans have a natural tendency to want to get into trouble. So when you add millions of dollars worth of treasure with human nature, the result is theft. Theft is not a new concept, it has been around since the beginning of the human race. Theft deterrent devices, such as burglar alarms, are commonly used to protect valuables such as cars, homes, and now even shipwrecks.

If anyone has a ship that needs protection you might be interested in SEA-GUARD. Its pretty much the most awesome thing ever if you need to keep greedy hands away from you prized shipwreck find. SEA-GAURD is an underwater burglar alarm system that was created by Turkish scientists and shown at the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) gathering in Paris.

It has been estimated that there are still nearly 1 million ancient shipwrecks that have not been discovered yet. As the discoveries increase exponentially in the future due to technological progress, the potential for theft will also increase.

SEA-GUARD works to protect these priceless treasures by monitoring the underwater acoustic field that surrounds the shipwreck.

SEA-GUARD is comprised of two sensor packages. One package is on the sea floor at the treasure site. The other is at the surface. The device can detect activity that is out of the ordinary by looking at the sounds waves. SEA-GUARD also uses artificial intelligence to analyze behavior patters of intruders. This makes it unlikely to mistake fish for humans. Once a real threat is discovered, the system can send an alarm to the proper authorities by way of a cable.

Ba ha ha this whole concept is just so amusing. If one of my boats full of pirate booty ever sinks I will know where to look for some good info.

I was looking for a security system to prevent theft in the sea ranching industry, this could solve my problems. Thanks for the heads up mate.
