There is no doubt that most of us lead busy and stressful lives. You may have a power hungry boss or just hungry kids that are screaming at you all day. Don’t you wish there was some way to let all the stress of the day melt away as you rest your head at night? It is very important that you get the recommend 8 hours of sleep per night because the consequences can be drastic. According to the Department of Transportation 1 to 4 percent of all crashes are due to sleepiness, especially in rural areas. About 4% of these crashes are fatal. But how can you feel fully rested if you are tossing and turning all night?
Before we go any further we need to establish one truth, at the end of the day traditional spring mattresses are just not comfortable! It is common knowledge that these spring mattress cause pressure points throughout your body which leads to nighttime discomfort, resulting in a loss of sleep. Thankfully our good friends at NASA developed something better. What they came up with is a memory foam mattress pad. It is basically a mattress that is made of memory foam, not painful springs, and it molds to your body. This ensures that each individual’s body is fully supported and this enables us all to get a good night’s sleep.
Now that we have discussed the inherent flaw in traditional spring mattresses, it would be wise to examine the pros and cons of memory foam mattress pads.
Memory Foam Mattress Pad Pros
- Open-cell foam that allows the foam to breath freely and thus keeps your body cool
- Distributes weight evenly to eliminate pressure point and help relieve joint pain
- Allows for better blood flow due to better spinal alignment
- Especially great for the elderly or pregnant women
- Memory foam is no conducive to “bed bugs” and dust so it is much cleaner. Those who suffer from allergies will really notice a big difference.
- Hypo-allergenic
Memory Foam Mattress Pad Cons
- Bed sheets might not always fit properly (especially on a twin memory foam mattress pad).
- Chemical smell when you first open the package. This smell goes away within 5 days.
If you use an electric blanket with the memory foam it will discolor the foam over time. The functionality of the foam remains the same.
Memory Foam Mattress Pad Summary
Now that we have discussed the pros and cons of memory foam mattress pads the choice is yours. You can continue to toss and turn on your traditional mattress or you can try something new and experience the epitome of nocturnal comfort.
